$9.9M in Funding Awarded by the Northern and Southern Funds

The Pacific Salmon Commission’s (PSC) Northern and Southern Funds have selected 85 projects to receive a total of $9.9M USD in funding for 2026.

    • Northern Fund: $5.28M USD awarded to 38 projects
    • Southern Fund: $4.62M USD awarded to 47 projects

All funded projects align with the goals of the respective Fund and the Pacific Salmon Treaty. Successful grantees include First Nations and Tribes, non-profit organizations, U.S. state, federal, and Canadian federal salmon management agencies.

Examples of projects receiving funding include:

    • Installation and operation of a new autonomous salmon enumeration system that is solar powered and remotely monitored on the Zymoetz River in Northern British Columbia.
    • Chinook and sockeye salmon stock assessment on the Alsek River in Alaska.
    • Piloting the development of a camera-based recreational monitoring program that can continuously estimate fishing effort in Port Hardy, Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
    • Restoration of 1.25 miles of instream and side channel habitat in the South Fork Nooksack River in Washington to restore early Chinook spawning, rearing, and holding habitat.

Since 2004, the PSC’s Northern and Southern Funds have awarded over $155M USD in grants, supporting more than 1,880 projects.
