$9.5M in Funding Announced by the Northern and Southern Funds
The Pacific Salmon Commission’s (PSC) Northern and Southern Funds have selected 83 projects to receive a total of $9.5M USD in funding for 2025.

- Northern Fund: $5M USD awarded to 37 projects
- Southern Fund: $4.5M USD awarded to 46 projects
All funded projects align with the goals of the respective Fund and the Pacific Salmon Treaty. Projects involve collaboration and work led by First Nations and Tribal organizations, non-profit groups, U.S. state, federal, and Canadian federal salmon management agencies.
A few of the projects receiving funding include:

- Removing fish barriers on Ennis Creek in the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State to reconnect approximately 5.4 river miles and restore access to an estimated 80 acres of fish habitat.
- Developing AI-powered salmon counting through drone-based aerial imaging to improve salmon population monitoring on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
- Studying the causes and effects of thiamine deficiency in Chinook salmon in the Gulf of Alaska to better understand its impact on marine survival.
- Ongoing assessments of salmon populations on the Yakoun River in Haida Gwaii, British Columbia.
Since 2004, the PSC’s Northern and Southern Funds have awarded over $145M USD in grants, supporting more than 1,800 projects.
