TEMPORARY POSITIONS

Each summer, the Pacific Salmon Commission hires temporary staff for the following temporary full & part-time seasonal positions.

Hydroacoustic Technicians
A few temporary Hydroacoustic Technician positions will be available during the 2008 summer season. The duties of the positions entail: boat transecting, running acoustic equipment, computer operations, and data reading. The positions are full-time seasonal and would start mid-June and run until mid-September. The primary work site will be near Mission, BC.

Boat Operator
A few temporary Boat Operator positions will be available during the 2008 summer season. The duties of the positions entail: boat transecting, running acoustic equipment, as well as limited computer operations. The positions are full-time seasonal and would start mid-June and run until mid-September. The primary work site will be near Mission, BC.

Scale Lab Assistant
A temporary Scale Lab Assistant position will be available during the 2008 season. The duties include: scale mounting, data entry & other related tasks. Some weekend work is required. The position will start in the middle of June and may run through the fall. Attention to detail and good hand eye coordination is an asset. Some post-secondary laboratory training or related work experience in a laboratory facility is desirable.

Test Fishing Observer
A few temporary Test Fishing Observer positions will be available during the 2008 summer season. Duties of the test fishing observer include tasks such as catch monitoring and collection of biological data and catch effort information. The positions are full-time and are for the duration of test fishing season from late June into September (some positions may extend into October).

Port Sampling Technicians
A few temporary Port Sampler positions will be available during the 2008 summer season. Duties of the port sampler include the collection of biological data from sockeye (& pink) salmon taken in commercial and test fisheries. Applicants are advised that these positions are part-time and might be shorter in duration (sometimes < 4 weeks) from early July into August.

Test Fishing Data Entry & Catch Statistics Assistant
A temporary Test Fishing Data Entry & Catch Statistics Assistant position will be available during the 2008 summer season. Duties include database management, data entry, and catch statistic data gathering. Preference for applicants with database & office experience. The position is full-time from mid-May into November.

Wages are currently under review, however they are likely to range from approximately $17.80 to $21.10 per hour, depending on job responsibilities and experience.
