LGL Fishwheel Catch Updates

Salmon, steelhead and sturgeon are being captured, tagged and released using up to three fishwheels deployed on the Fraser River at the Mission Railway Bridge from June through September 2007.

The study is being conducted by LGL Limited working in collaboration with the Matsqui First Nation, Canadian Pacific Railway, Pacific Salmon Commission, Fisheries and Oceans Canada with funding from the PSC Southern Restoration and Enhancement Fund and the Fraser Salmon and Watersheds Program. The Fraser Salmon and Watersheds Program, which is co-managed by Pacific Salmon Foundation and Fraser Basin Council, is funded by the BC Government's Living Rivers Trust Fund, DFO's Fraser Basin Initiative Program and private sector contributors. Information obtained through this study will directly contribute to improved management and conservation of Fraser River salmon, steelhead and sturgeon. A fishwheel is also being operated by the Siska First Nation in the Fraser canyon and they are providing data on catch and tags recovered from Mission releases. These data have been added to the daily summaries.

You can help the study and qualify for a reward by cooperating with catch monitoring efforts and returning radio and spaghetti tags. See the following links for information on returning tags:

Fishwheel daily catch summaries will be updated approximately two times per week. Click on the following link to view the latest update:
