Genetic Analyses of samples collected in Recreational Chinook Fisheries – Northern BC

This proposal is for genetic analysis of approximately 3,500 Chinook salmon scale samples collected from recreational fisheries in Northern British Columbia from 2012 to 2014. Sport fisheries in Canada receive priority access to Chinook salmon over commercial fisheries and the sport fishery in Northern BC has experienced significant growth. Scale collections from the fishery provide an opportunity to extract DNA for genetic analyses to identify stock specific impacts. Genetic data will supplement cwt data to estimate fishery impacts on stocks of concern.
